THE CATHOLIC CHURCH DURING A SOCIO-POLITICAL CRISIS IN INDONESIA

Led by Gloria Truly ESTRELITA (École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, Centre Asie du Sud-Est, Paris) & Eduardo Erlangga DRESTANTA (Sorbonne Université).

Project description:

There has been little recognition of humanitarian aid provided by the Catholic Church in Indonesia. Yet, there is a longstanding tradition of progressive Catholic movements in Indonesia that have tended to different issues from poverty, war, human rights, and exploitive development practices. This project studies how these Catholic social movements have progressively favored the helpless and mistreated as well as how these social movements play a role in a pluralistic Indonesian society, especially during the socio-political crisis in Indonesia.
